Location -Absolutely stunning resort with gondola rides, a mountain coaster, ropes courses, ziplines, mini golf and even a private beach. Located on the Georgian bay it is honestly picturesque and a ride up the gondola to the top of the mountain proves this. There are so many photoshoot locations for anything woods and adventuring related up there. The resort itself from the outside looks like a cute little town with shops providing both food and photo shoot options. There is food in a variety of price ranges which is essential. One thing to note about the hotel is that when the hotel discounted the con rates more the convention actually refunded convention goers which is honestly unheard of. When showing your con badge you also received a 40% discount on resort activities which was also very generous of them and made it more affordable to try out activities the convention had to offer. There are a lot of places to shoot though.
**Being where it is on the Georgian bay there was a lot of wind which is great for heavy capes or multilayered costumes where you’d like a lot of movement.
Events – I attended the opening ceremonies which were very promising for a first year con. They had activities ranging from dancers to piñatas filled with pokemon and dragonballs. There was a cash bar, a DJ and a bunch of free items. The dealers room was relatively sparse but a good turn out for a first year convention. There were maybe ~20 dealers and about 5 other conventions with tables advertising. Within the dealers room was a number of televisions set up for game play. A table top room was available with a good selection of games and staff encouraging people to join. On the schedule there were blocks set off on certain resort attractions where convention goers could participate for free which was handled nicely. They had con staff checking badges and handing out tickets which made it easy for resort staff to scan the tickets and have things operate as normal. Yeticon had the pingpong club rented out for a few hours on Saturday that had 3 pingpong tables, a bar and space for dancing (including a stripper pole) which was fun but really unused. Saturday night there was a pool party in a private pool that was nice. The only slide available was a kiddy slide but everyone was having fun with it. They had a rope swing, lots of floating animals to ride and 2 hot tubs. Overall a fun experience and people enjoying themselves.
Overall – Great convention space with a lot of potential. This is a nice convention for being an actual vacation too. I will definitely go back next year and recommend it to all of my convention friends. The con badge has a lot of bang for the buck and it’s a very chill convention.
